TISSUE TRANSFERS
During breast reconstruction, tissue is taken from either the lower abdominal area or the back.
Transverse Rectus Abdominus Muscle Flap
The breast's form is recreated by transferring tissue from the lower abdominal area.
Latissimus Dorsi Flap
Tissue can also be taken from the latissimus dorsi flap on the back and transferred to recreate the breast's form. It is also possible to combine this tissue with an implant.
IMPLANT
An implant is able to be placed within the breast tissue. The reconstruction of the nipple occurs at a later date.
